The Center for Talent Development (CTD), which is part of the School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University, has a 20-plus year history of serving academically gifted children and their families in the midwestern United States through a variety of programs and services. These include:

  • Testing and assessment for children in grades pre-K through 9
  • Summer programs for children in grades pre-K through 9
  • Distance education programs for children in grades 4 through 12
  • Weekend programs for children in grades pre-K through 11
  • Programs in leadership development and civic engagement

CTD serves the families of academically gifted children through print resources for parents and workshops and seminars by specialists in gifted education. The Center also works with educators by providing courses and participating in a Masters degree program in talent development at Northwestern. CTD works with students whose talent and abilities are easily identified and demonstrated as well as those with unrealized potential.

Through its programs, CTD endeavors to cultivate not only the intellectual abilities of gifted learners but also other characteristics that support high achievement, such as motivation and persistence. Through its work with educators, parents, communities, and children, the Center endeavors to create support systems that will enable talented children to fully realize their potential and abilities.
